The Galle Dutch Fort, built on a large plot of land a few years ago, was used by the Portuguese until it was taken over by the Dutch. The British finally sealed the fort as theirs with a lot of re-building and renovation. The unique blends that led to the standing of this monumental structure are now listed under the UNESCO World Heritage Sites thus deserving a substantial place on the list of places to visit in Galle. The Galle Fort Clock Tower was built as a dedication to the Humanitarian Doctor Peter Daniel Anthonisz who was known for being quite a people-person. The record has it, the people living in Galle pitched in to have enough money to build this tower in the Galle Fort Campus.
Madu River Safari
The Madu River is very rich in biodivesity. It passes through the wet zone of Sri Lanka opening up into the large Madu Lagoon on its way to the Indian Ocean. The beauty of Madu river comprises with most of the soggy wetlands, the solid landmasses of the region mainly consists of islands. Turtle Farm
The sea turtles are one of the rare species found in the world. Their heritage could be traced to more than 100 million years. They are supposed to have lived during the Dinosaurs age. But at present about 8 varieties of turtles are said to be existing. But due to the destroying of these turtles, there is a threat of these species being eradicated from our planet. There are five varieties of Sea Turtles found in Sri Lanka, namely Olive Ridley Turtle, Loggerhead Turtle, Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle and Leatherhead Turtle. The all major nesting habitats are located in the Galle district (Bentota, Induruwa, Kosgoda, Thibbattawa, Ahungalle, Balapitiya and Unawatuna) and Hambantota District (Rekawa, Wellodaya, Kahanda modara, Walawemodara and Yala).
Mask Museum
The Ambalangoda Mask Museum is designed to introduce into the richness of the mask tradition of Ambalangoda and to strengthen this cultural heritage. The museum is by the side of the road, also houses the mask workshop, mini cultural centre and a small library. Apart from creating a lasting footprint on the country’s heritage, the museum is an authority on the traditional mask craftsmanship.
Moonstone Mine
Moonstone is soft milky white stone whose name is a semblance in colour to the moon.
Galle City Tour
