Whale Watching

Sri Lanka is one of the worlds best places for whale watching. Whale watching has been one of the most spectacular experiences in Sri Lanka. The ideal locations for whale watching would be Dondra Point (accessible from Galle, Hikkaduwa and Mirissa) and Trincomalee while the sea off Kalpitiya teems with an abundance of dolphins. Mirissa is the best place to start your whale and dolphin watching tour in Sri Lanka. Blue whales are the largest creatures on earth, measuring up to 30 metres in length, and luckily enough for you, they live only a few miles off the South Coast of Sri Lanka. The art to spotting the whales comes down to mastering their breathing behaviour.
The Blue Whale is light gray and has a body spout, 30 meters in length and weighs 125 to 150 tons. No matter how big a creature is, they only eat very small animals such as plankton and shrimp. The whales mouth has no teeth and baleen discs, which cause the shrimp to suck shrimp through its keratinizing fibers. The blue whale comes to the surface of the water about ten minutes to breathe, and when it breathes, the top of the water is about thirty feet high. The height and shape of the trunk vary from whale to whale, allowing observers to spot whales from afar.
